One of our values as a church is radical generosity. What is that exactly?

Radical generosity is the posture and willingness to see our resources as opportunities to serve the Lord and others. And not stopping at the bare minimum but joining Jesus in the full joy that comes with serving wholeheartedly. Radically, generosity is not merely about the amount of time or treasure we give. It is about the motivation that we give with.

In the book of Genesis, we meet two brothers, Cain and Abel. Abel gave generously and joyfully to the Lord because he knew that what he had was because God had provided for him. Abel’s giving was an act of worship to praise God for his provision. In other words, Abel was radically generous because God was radically generous first. On the other hand, Cain did not give joyfully and, therefore, was not generous. Their heart postures couldn’t give us a more clear picture of what it means to be radically generous. And, if you know their story, you know what happened, and it is tragic. Sometimes, we can misunderstand their story and even their generosity. We can think that God loves those who give a LOT! But the Bible never tells us that. Instead, we see that God loves when we give joyfully (2 Cor. 9:7). And what spurs our joyful giving? God’s radically generous love and presence. We are only able to give generously and joyfully because God has loved us first. A radically generous person realizes that it is not about the amount we give but the posture of our giving, and that posture comes from receiving a new identity in Christ. So, let’s not get hung up on the amount, but instead, let’s focus on what God really desires. He desires cheerful and joyful givers who see their time, talents, and treasure as opportunities to worship God and serve others. Let’s be radically generous.

This Sunday, April 14th, we have a great opportunity to love others generously and practically. If you have not signed up yet, please sign up for the 100K Meals event. This is a chance for us as a body to give of our time, talents, and treasure to care for and love children and families in Haiti with the support of our global partners at UCI.

This year, our goal is to package 150,000 meals. Why? First, because of the significant need our partners at UCI are facing. Secondly, because it also marks a milestone of 1 million meals packaged over the years, we’ve been doing this as a body. So, on April 14th, we will not have normal worship services. Instead, we will have three shifts (8:30, 9:30, 10:30) to package meals. Please click the link and sign up for one of those shifts below. We would love for you to invite your friends, family members, and neighbors to join us for this opportunity! Just like believers in the book of Acts, let’s be generous because God was first generous to us!
