EHP Day 1-We Need God Daily
Genesis 1:3-5, 2:2
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day… And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. (for fuller context, read Genesis 1:1-2:3)
Perhaps we’ve never given it a second thought. Why day-by-day creating? (however you understand the word “day”) Why not all at once? Why a rotating planet toggling back-n-forth between darkness and light? Evening, morning. Why the rhythm of one’s energy spent, then needing our energy replenished through rest, followed by the renewed hope of fresh strength arriving with the dawns of each morning. With each 24 hour spin, a new day of possibilities?
Our marvelous Creator has crafted the cadence of our dependence. Like batteries requiring recharge, we exhale only to immediately need an inhale. Moment-by-moment, via the daily pulse, our Provider reminds us that what we truly need is what He alone can give. What He willingly gives we need day-by-day. Enough light on the path ahead, enough breath and strength for the day’s work, enough manna for the day’s meals, enough rest for the morrow’s challenges (cf. Ps.127:2).
The Baptizer declared,
“A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven” (John 3:27).
Paul reminded Athen’s incessant debaters,
“God himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything” (Acts 17:26).
Psalm 59:16 declares,
“But I will sing of Your strength; I will sing aloud of Your stead-fast love in the morning.”
Meet with God each day. Sing loud His love. Recharge!
