Position Overview

The Tech Director oversees the development, implementation, maintenance, and use of technology to support Christ Community Church’s mission of “Connecting people to life-defining relationships in Christ.” This role comprises two primary areas of oversight and direction: AVL and IT technologies as they intersect with AVL. It requires competency in both with high AVL proficiency in support of worship ministry.

This person directs all AVL operations, tech staff, volunteers, and processes, and supports basic church IT needs. They maintain existing technology, develop new solutions, and are responsible for day-to-day operations of information, network, and AVL systems. They provide industry standard expertise, consistent leadership, and team-building skills that enhance the church and the specific mission of gathered worship.

Under guidance of the worship pastor, this is a coaching role requiring a capacity and desire to develop others. In line with the church and the EFCA, this person must be a committed follower of Jesus, dedicated to ongoing growth in their faith in a way that provides a positive and consistent witness to others.

 

Preferred Experience

  • 5 or more years of experience in medium-to-large church production or live/tour production with an emphasis on live audio mixing and the management of audio software and hardware
  • Experience coaching staff and training volunteers
  • Knowledge and experience with DMX and lighting control systems, rigging, consoles and fixtures (conventional, moving, and LED)
  • Knowledge and experience with video broadcast systems, production, and routing (SDI, Cameras, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with visual presentation, especially ProPresenter.
  • Experience collaborating across teams and departments in an organization
  • Understanding of lighting for video and live experiences
  • Experience with media server systems
  • Basic experience in network and IT administration and solutions

Areas of Responsibility:

AVL

  • Lead and Coach AVL Staff and Volunteers to implement, utilize, and operate AVL systems effectively
  • Direct AVL operation in support of rehearsals, services, and special events
  • Collaborate with AVL integrators and consultants to implement beneficial solutions
  • Recommend and advise leadership on AVL and IT tools, solutions, and processes
  • Develop and document AVL and IT infrastructure for future growth
  • Outline best practices and procedures for AVL and IT usage for longevity and good stewardship
  • Cover AVL needs when staff or volunteers cannot
  • Manage AVL budget
  • Oversee and manage all AVL solutions and gear throughout the building for equitable support, consistency, and ministry success
  • Maintain essential IT infrastructure as it pertains to AVL, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
  • Study and monitor the latest in network, security, IT, and AVL solutions

 

IT Assistance and Coordination

While a minor part of the role, there will be occasions when your IT experience through AVL renders you the most qualified to respond to broader church IT needs. In such cases, you will:

  • Assist in supporting whole church internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments
  • Work with internal and external partners to implement and maintain network and IT infrastructure
  • Assist with troubleshooting and technical support for production and user machines
  • Assist with system administrator duties for the internal network.

 

Schedule

Typical Work Week: Sunday – Thursday

Expect weekend work with variable hours for evening rehearsals, funerals, weddings, and additional events.

Direct Report

  • Worship Pastor: For weekly review, coaching, status updates, or schedule changes.

Regular Collaboration

  • Serve Pastor: IT status updates, assist with community partner needs and contracted work
