EHP Day 19-Meeting the Burning Bush God Part 2
Exodus 3:4-6
When the LORD saw that Moses turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” And He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
What does it mean? When God calls out our name, twice? Anything? Examples happen at critical times. Moments when God refuses dismissal. When something urgent requires realization, embracing, worship, action.
As Abraham raised the knife to obediently sacrifice Isaac (Gen. 22:11), God’s angel called to him from heaven “Abraham, Abraham! Do not lay your hand upon the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God…”
When Israel (formerly named Jacob) sacrificed to God at Beersheba wondering about his future, God spoke in a vision, “Jacob, Jacob… do not be afraid to go down to Egypt. There I will make of you a great nation” (Gen. 46:1-4).
Unfamiliar with God’s voice, Israel’s future prophet/judge heard in the night’s stillness, “Samuel! Samuel!” (1 Sam. 3:1-10). Preoccupied with serving, perturbed by a sister not sharing her stress, Jesus’ friend would hear, “Martha, Martha,” (Lk. 10:38-42) “you are worried about unnecessary things.” To Peter, “Simon, Simon–Satan demands to sift you like wheat” (to expose your chaff!) (Luke 22:31-32).
Headstrong, blinded in hatred, he heard, “Saul, Saul, why persecute Me?” (Acts 9).
Most, when hearing their name twice, replied, “Here I am.” In your quiet time with God today, listen for your name. Present yourself to God. Bend the knee. Listen for more. He has something important for you in your future.
