EHP Day 47-Transformed By the Word/Spirit of God
2 Corinthians 3:15-18
Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Ever had this experience? You watch a movie with someone, only later to talk about it. Over a cup of joe you inquire, “What was, do you think, the point of the movie?” The answer you hear surprises. “Were we watching the same flick?” you ask. “I didn’t get that at all.” Honestly, this happens all the time. Depending on our personal “filters,” different people can read the same article or watch the same movie and come away with widely disparate thoughts and conclusions.
The Apostle Paul encountered this over and over. Reading the Old Testament to his Jewish friends, he noticed how they seemed unable to find it pointing to Christ…at all! Like a veil covered their eyes; blind to Jesus in Scripture. Yet when Paul read the Old Testament, all of it pointed to Jesus, the remarkable Messiah from Nazareth (cf. Luke 24:25-27).
This, of course, explains so much. If your non-Christian friends and/or family get nothing from reading the Bible—and you get so much!—it’s because you as Jesus’ disciple have had the veil of spiritual blindness removed from your “eyes.” When you read and reflect on Scripture, you have the priceless opportunity to “behold the glory of the Lord,” even to be transformed in those moments into His likeness. All because the Spirit uses the word of God to increasingly change us, degree by degree becoming like our Savior and Lord. “We all” are invited to behold.
