Jonah – Study #3
Jonah 2: From Running to Repentance
Can someone be too far away that God won’t hear?
This week’s teaching highlighted Jonah’s discovery that swallowed by distress, repentance can replace rebellion through humble worship. Jonah’s second chapter recounted how Jonah discovered God’s responsiveness to his distress, God’s sovereignty in his distress, and the Lord’s deliverance of Jonah from distress. God’s ears are wide open to repentant worship.
In this follow-up study, let’s explore the responsiveness of God to anyone who responds to God’s work in his/her life. Through it, we can better know, and explain to others, God’s responsiveness when we call out to Him.
GETTING STARTED:
Begin by recalling together any experiences you’ve had when you cried out to God for help, and you knew He had responded –
What was your situation of need?
What led you to cry out to God?
How did He respond? What help did you receive?
How might your story help someone else?
GROUP STUDY – Take some time with Psalm 40 in your Connect Group time together.
READ it together
DESCRIBE in your words WHAT WAS DAVID’S EXPERIENCE with GOD’s DELIVERANCE?
IDENTIFY the LESSONS DAVID IS SHARING with others through this Psalm
What ADDITIONAL REQUESTS does David have OF GOD that you find here?
Finally, How would you summarize WHAT THIS PSALM TEACHES…and can you think of any examples
In the New Testament (e.g., in the Gospels) where someone needy cried out to God (or Jesus) and received the help he/she needed?
*** is there any one in your network of relationships who could be helped with what you’ve discovered through your time with this Psalm?
*** how might your personal testimony of God’s responsiveness to you help someone?
PRAYER TOGETHER – Take up the following as you pray together
a) Any personal needs and/or requests you have
b) For Christ Community Church’s readiness to extend love and relationship with internationals during the upcoming ministry year (Sept 2019-May 2020)
c) For anyone you know whom you are having a heart for sharing the Gospel with, someone you need to have the Holy Spirit open up a natural and winsome opportunity.
“Let’s be ready to share our life experiences with God with someone else. Your personal testimony is powerful!”
