The Purposeful Wind-Gusts of the Holy Spirit

David Staff   -

Jesus said, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).

Interestingly, it was beginning to gust into the heart of Nicodemus.

Even more wonderfully, the blow of the Spirit’s influence continues in the days in which you and I are living…right now.

CAN I CALL YOU?

Mid-week, I received this text:  Hey Pastor Staff, do you have time for a quick phone call?  I’m building a relationship with a guy through my job who as some issues with Christians!  I need some perspective on a couple of things he said.

Moments later, we talked.  This young’ professional’s Christlike manner is a tool being used by God’s Spirit to draw a work companion closer to the Savior.  We discussed how important it was to steer clear of peripheral issues, rather focusing on giving him a good look at who Jesus truly is (advice given:  “Ask him to read the Gospel of John.  Ask him to tell, after reading, what he thinks Jesus is all about.”)

I had a similar conversation with a young man last week.  “Aren’t churches full of hypocrites?” he honestly inquired.  “Well,” I replied, “I’m not sure the church has a monopoly of hypocrites.  Sure we’ve got our share…but then again, there’s a fair number outside the church as well.”

“Fair enough,” he said, smiling.  “The church is really about knowing and following Jesus,” I continued.  “Do you have any interest in exploring who Jesus truly is?”

In all this, I sense the Spirit of God calling Christ Community Church, in a fresh way, to being open and unashamed, and even bold, with the good news about the Savior.

What opportunities has the Spirit blown into your life?

HEEDING THE CALL TO MAKING DISCIPLES

Making our way through Paul’s 2nd letter to Timothy, we are together hearing the call to being ready to help others become disciples of Jesus.  The church is a bout defeating the gates of hell in people’s lives by making disciples.

I trust you are hearing the Lord’s call afresh to this in your life.  I know I am.

See you Sunday…and if you have a story of the Spirit’s wind in your life, please call or email or share it with me some how, some way.  He is out to bring to those around us His life from above.
