Worship Wednesday: The Fruit of Corporate Singing

Chris Akers   -

Worship family, we have reached the middle of the week. This affords us an opportunity to take our spiritual pulse. If Sunday’s gathering launched us into a week of worship, how are we doing in Christ three days later? As our church would put it: Is the Spirit flowing through us? Has God made our day?

For those like me, especially by the middle of the week, such questions can be guilt-inducing. Yes, even as a worship pastor I am easily distracted and prone to wander. Allow me to set us free from that and reframe this as an invitation from the Father to come draw near; to abide in Him. You have been running hard. Some of you are in the midst of spiritual deserts and difficult days. There is no better time to seek the Father. Come and drink from the well that never runs dry.

The following video is an encouragement to you, worship leaders. Your service matters. You regularly devote time late at night on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to prepare. You faithfully rise early on Sundays to come and lead. And each time you do, you open the door again for someone to reaffirm their faith in song; to deepen their walk with Christ in fellowship and prayer; to encounter Jesus for the first time. In short, you are helping make disciples. The fruit is borne over time and often unseen to all but the Lord – yet He is using you to make it happen.

Watch this video with Shane Barnard (Shane and Shane) and Ben Stuart (Passion City Church) as they discuss the fruit of corporate singing. Listen to how the regular gathering impacts others. Listen to how the Lord uses sung truth to anchor a storm-tossed faith. Listen, and let it spur you on to love and good works as you lead again this Sunday. Let’s continue to connect people to life-defining encounters with the presence of Christ as they gather.
