Victory in Jesus

Kyle Bartholic   -

As we have been walking through the book of Revelation, we have been greeted time and time again with the truth that Jesus offers us a victory that we can’t find in any other place. It is no different as we make our way through the final chapters. In chapter 19, we will once again hear that Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings. In chapter 20, we will be reminded of his ability to reign and rule. In chapters 21 & 22, we will be given a picture of the future eternal state for all believers that is established through Christ. In sum, Revelation is a book of hope because it keeps pointing us to the truth that in Jesus, we have victory.

If you have been around church and sung a few hymns in your days, you’ve probably sung one titled, Victory in Jesus. It was written by Eugene M. Bartlett Sr. in 1939 after he had suffered a significant stroke. His life was physically altered, but his hope in Christ remained. As we keep looking for Jesus in Revelation, let us consider the truth in this hymn.

Victory In Jesus –

I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood’s atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing pow’r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, “Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,”
And somehow Jesus came and bro’t
To me the victory.

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I’ll sing up there
The song of victory.
