Called to One Alone – Christ!
This month, and this past week, a good number of us have been on our knees for at least 10 minutes a day asking the Lord Jesus to strengthen and unify the body which is Christ Community Church. I hope you’ve dialed in to the Per Diem Prayer Daily Doses (and on the church app) and bent the knee.
What destroys unity is allegiances to secondary figures or causes. Paul rightly called out the contentious Corinthian brethren.
1 Corinthains 1:10 But, dear brothers, I beg you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to stop arguing among yourselves. Let there be real harmony so that there won’t be splits in the church. I plead with you to be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. 11 For some of those who live at Chloe’s house have told me of your arguments and quarrels, dear brothers. 12 Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul”; and others say that they are for Apollos or for Peter; and some that they alone are the true followers of Christ. 13 And so, in effect, you have broken Christ into many pieces. (The Living Bible)
Did you catch the last sentence? “You have broken Christ into many pieces.”
Of course this is what our spiritual enemy plots. Destroy a unifying allegiance to the priority of the Lord Jesus Christ and his life-changing gospel, and get caught up in what ultimately divides and disempowers the power of our unity in Him.
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY IN UNITY
From where I sit, I can see the Holy Spirit moving in people’s lives, drawing them to Jesus. To nothing or no one less. New individuals, couples, and families are returning to our worship services. They are hungry for truth from Scripture and genuine joy in something fresh rather than the warring of the world.
We must take up this opportunity as Jesus’ family and team to unify and lovingly reach. We must continue to pray for repentant hearts, for increasingly prayerful days, for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. We can come back to Gather worship and weekly fellowship knowing there are hearts and lives on the line to be loved to Jesus.
Paul said it above. Be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. As we will consider this Sunday, “Seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
